Today’s “first” is of the more random kind. I met a lively lady for the first time today, who makes sport’s bags for refugee children out of the fabric of broken umbrellas.
She is such a sweet person, so happy to help and really humble about it. The bags are wonderfully colourful and creative, some with little ornaments, others in brilliant colours.
I love any recycling of this kind, where what’s essentially rubbish is given a new purpose. If we all were a bit more like the lady today, the world would be a better place.
As she lives just round the corner from us, I ended up giving her lift home. She had swapped a load of her bags for some more old umbrellas at the warehouse of our association and there was no way I was going to let her carry them all home on public transport. We had a great chat in the car, she was full of interesting stories. I do hope she gets in touch if she needs a lift again soon.
How I enjoy these “firsts” that just happen! Life is full of surprises and adventures, we just have to keep our eyes open for them.
