Today has been absolutely amazing!
There was a summer party at the place in which refugees in Munich have to live after they first arrive and until they are sent elsewhere.
I’d never been there until today. Hundreds of people came to celebrate this day together with the refugees, many of whom had only arrived a few days ago. There was live music, food donated by various local companies (I’m talking 20,000 smoothies and 800 burgers, for example!) and a lovely children’s entertainment section with a bouncy castle and toys being handed out as presents.
After all the bad things that have been happening in Germany and Europe lately, this party was just what the doctor ordered. It was a great reminder of the wonderful solidarity Munich has been showing and it was a wonderful opportunity to talk to refugees rather than just talking about them…
I hope this spirit will remain prevalent in Germany and the horrible attacks on refugee homes will stop!
